Objective of the session
- To explore the interplay between customary, indigenous, and formal legal systems in the Himalayan region and their role in ensuring justice for local communities.
- To examine challenges in harmonising legal pluralism with national and international environmental, human rights, and development frameworks.
- To assess the accessibility, affordability, and timeliness of justice in geographically remote and ecologically fragile Himalayan areas.
- To identify barriers to the effective functioning of formal legal institutions (e.g., courts, tribunals, alternative dispute resolution bodies) in the region.
- To highlight best practices and case studies from within the Himalayas and other mountainous regions worldwide for improving legal inclusivity.

- To develop policy recommendations for integrating customary laws into formal systems while safeguarding constitutional values and rights.
- To explore the role of environmental courts and tribunals (including the National Green Tribunal) in addressing ecological disputes in Himalayan states.

- To strengthen community legal literacy and capacity building so that local populations can effectively navigate multiple legal systems
