Energy poverty compounds every other pressure: without dependable power there is no cold storage for produce, no reliable clinic, no connected classroom, no enterprise after dark. Extending a conventional grid across this terrain is slow and costly, so decentralized clean energy is not a second best option in the mountains; often it is the only realistic one. This track focuses on clean, dependable power for settlements beyond the grid: generation,
storage, maintenance, and the enterprise and financing models that keep a system running long after the installation photograph is taken.
• Understand energy access gaps and why past systems failed
• Showcase proven solar, micro hydro, hybrid and storage technologies
• Identify opportunities in installation, maintenance, financing and productive use
• Connect innovators with energy agencies, financiers and partners
• Develop maintainable models ready for deployment
• A shortlist of energy technologies durable in Himalayan conditions
• Enterprise and financing models addressing long term operation
• Candidate settlements for pilot deployment
• A one page roadmap for the summit outcome document
Renewable energy researchers and engineers, clean energy startups, rural energy NGOs, state
energy and rural development departments, financiers and impact investors, and young
innovators.
