The Himalayan rivers, lifelines to millions, are facing increasing pressure from pollution, urban runoff, unplanned development, and climate-induced changes. This session will explore how Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) — such as constructed wetlands, phytoremediation, and bio-filtration systems — can serve as low-cost, ecologically sustainable approaches to rejuvenate and manage water quality in mountain regions. We will focus on integrating traditional knowledge with modern ecological engineering to design interventions that are community-led, scalable, and adapted to high-altitude hydrological conditions. This dialogue brings together engineers, scientists, policy experts, and local practitioners to reimagine Himalayan river management from a resilience perspective.
