The Himalayan region, despite its rich natural resources, continues to face critical energy access challenges due to its difficult terrain and scattered populations. This session focuses on the transformative role of renewable energy solutions in building energy resilience, supporting local livelihoods, and mitigating environmental risks. The dialogue will explore off-grid solar, mini-hydro, biomass, and wind energy applications designed specifically for high-altitude and remote Himalayan settings. The session will also address the policy, financing, and technical enablers needed to accelerate adoption while respecting ecological fragility and community needs.

Objectives

  • To identify region-appropriate renewable energy solutions for the Himalayan terrain
  • To discuss decentralised energy systems and microgrids for rural electrification
  • To explore the role of clean energy in climate mitigation and adaptation
  • To analyse barriers in financing, logistics, and long-term maintenance
  • To foster partnerships between academia, government, and local entrepreneurs

Who Should Attend

  • Renewable energy researchers, engineers, and technology developers
  • Sustainability consultants and clean-tech entrepreneurs
  • Policymakers and government representatives from hilly states
  • NGOs and community energy advocates
  • Students and professionals in energy systems, environment, and rural development
