Why Choose Himalaya Calling

This session invites participants to explore the Himalayan landscape as a dynamic site of learning, where rivers, ecosystems, and cultural traditions converge. Using Gangotri as both a geographical and symbolic source, the session encourages multidisciplinary inquiry—from environmental science to spiritual ecology. Through storytelling, mapping, and experiential learning, participants will trace the journey from origin (srot) to confluence (sangam).

Objectives

  • To present the ‘Landscape Journey’ approach as a tool for participatory conservation.
  • To explore cultural linkages to landscape-level biodiversity management.
  • To promote community-led conservation models rooted in traditional knowledge.

Who should join

  • Cultural ecologists
  • Conservation NGOs
  • Landscape management practitioners
  • Community leaders
  • Academics working on cultural landscapes
